Apollo and Daphne by Bernini. Not my photo. Eros, insulted by Apollo, has shot Apollo with an arrow that made him fall in love with Daphne - but he's also shot Daphne with another arrow that ensures she'll be repelled by him. Apollo pursues her ardently. As he catches her, she cries out to her father the river god Peneus, who grants her wish - we see her in the process of turning into a laurel tree to escape Apollo. We saw this at the Borghese Gallery in Rome.
